19th FERCAP International Conference is an annual forum for ethical review committees in Asia and the Western Pacific. This year this prestigious event will be held in Penang, Malaysia.

The conference venue will be Universiti Sains Malaysia, Main Campus in Penang – a world renowned exotic holiday destination was known, once upon a time as Pulau Pinang or the ‘Isle of the Betel Nut’ . Listed as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site in 2008, this virgin paradise has no shortage of cultural sights and natural scenery.  Nicknamed the Pearl of the Orient, Penang is famous for its soft sandy beaches and is fondly regarded as the food capital of Malaysia with many interesting sites.

The theme for this year will be Harmonizing Research Ethics in a Global Setting.  Its objectives primarily to discuss current approaches and ethical issues in health research in a global setting as well as identifying ethical challenges in scientific advancement in health research in the Asia Pacific Region.  It also will highlight the current ethical guidelines and initiatives to promote ethical practices in various areas of research.  The conference will also describe the roles of various research stakeholders in promoting good science and ethics together with the role of regulators and research ethics committees in harmonizing human participant protection in various disciplines in a borderless world.

Despite of creating a platform for delegates to gather among them, sharing findings and knowledge;  such collaborations will greatly enhance the well beings of the subjects.
